ORIGINS OF THE MINERAL
Traces of this stone can be found up to 5000 BC in Mesopotamia and Egypt. It adorned many objects of art in all ancient cultures, and even today. The famous ultramarine blue, coming from the sulfur contained in the stone, can be admired in paintings and churches. It is also the blue of kings.
Its metamorphic formation was born from the contact of a magma at very high temperature, but low pressure, with existing rocks. Lapis lazuli often comes from Afghanistan where its extraction at high altitude is very difficult. They are also found in Chile, on the border with Argentina at an altitude of 3,600 meters, but also in Russia, the United States, Canada and Burma.
Lapis lazuli is, technically speaking, not really a mineral, but rather a rock made up of different minerals, primarily lazurite. The pyrite and calcite it may contain are distinguished in the golden (pyrite) and white (calcite) spots of the stone. The more blue is dominant, the more lapis lazuli is sought after.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Lapis lazuli will calm inflammation of all kinds, and can also be used for cardiac hypertension. It is a remedy against infections, particularly those of the eyes: this is how the Egyptians treated conjunctivitis. It will always be recommended for parts of the body linked to the 5th and 6th chakra: the throat, nose and eyes. The presence of aluminum in the stone can help treat cerebral imbalances, neuralgia and hyperactivity. It will also calm muscle tension.
ENERGY PROPERTIES
By combining different minerals, lapis lazuli is particularly favorable for transformation. We will have to think of it like the stone of kings, but a wise royalty serving its people. It is the stone of guides, “the messenger of the gods” on earth. It will allow a person to find their place, but also to communicate, to open up to their intuition and to develop friendship, or fair and true relationships with others. It is a stone which will rebalance the 5th and 6th chakra together: both openness to the truth (6th) and fair communication (5th) through speech.
PRACTICAL
Lapis lazuli goes very well with amber and malachite. It will be recommended for people with a leadership and guiding role, whether within the family, society, at work... It is the stone of wisdom and relationships with the world based on truth. and justice. Very fragile, you will need to avoid jewelry (rings and bracelets) made with this stone or be very attentive to it.
