ORIGINS OF THE MINERAL
The name of amethyst comes from the Greek “a-methystos” meaning “which is not intoxicated”. Very well known and very popular since Antiquity, it is found in numerous myths and legends, generally associated with the god Bacchus. It is found mainly in Brazil, where geodes (kind of cavities made of amethysts) are extracted, and in Uruguay where the most beautiful and intense crystals are found.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Amethyst is recommended for everything that affects the head: headaches and migraines. Calming the mind, it is also the stone for insomnia linked to excessive brain activity. Combined with rose quartz and placed next to the pillow, it will improve sleep. Purifying, amethyst cleanses the blood and all body fluids.
ENERGY PROPERTIES
Amethyst is linked to spirituality: in the Bible, it is the twelfth rampart of the
“Heavenly Jerusalem” designating union with God. Stone of purification of the ego, it will work on all the impulses and emotions that can cause suffering. Its etymology indicates that it protects against drunkenness in general. But it is also a very effective remedy against other types of excess, particularly fire.
