ORIGINS OF THE MINERAL
The name "azurite", from the Persian "lazaward", was invented in the 19th century by the mineralogist and geologist, François Sulpice Beudant. However, its origin is much more distant since it is found among the Egyptians from the 3rd millennium BC, then among the Greeks and the Romans. Today, the majority of azurite comes from Morocco, China and the United States, but it is also found in Mexico and Namibia. Its formation is sedimentary, and located in the oxidation zone, below the water table. It results from the encounter between water rich in copper and carbonate solutions. It is very rich in copper, hence its color (and can even contain up to 55%), just like malachite with which it is often associated.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Associated or mixed with malachite, azurite can intervene on all inflammatory conditions: arthritis, tendinitis, rheumatism... It will also help to treat fractures, according to Native American tradition.
ENERGY PROPERTIES
Azurite corresponds to the 6th chakra – that of the 3rd eye – located between the two eyebrows. It is the chakra that provides access to invisible and unconscious knowledge. Azurite thus allows you to return to yourself, to inner visions, to better understand an internal quest. With malachite, it will help people suffering from ailments whose causes are hidden or invisible (psychosomatic causes). By revealing root causes, azurite can also develop intuition and creativity.
PRACTICAL
Azurite is very fragile because of its low hardness. It will be necessary to keep it away from water and humidity, as this could alter it and give it a green color. This was also how painters in the Middle Ages worked colors from azurite. It is the stone of inner research, psychotherapy, and everything linked to the exploration of the unconscious. It is the stone of artists, to whom it brings inspiration. To promote these aspects, we will suggest lying down meditations by placing azurite on the 3rd eye for a few minutes. The presence of a large stone in a room, a workshop, an office, can bring more creativity.
