Imported from Sri Lanka by the Dutch at the beginning of the 18th century, tourmaline owes its name to the Sinhalese\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan\u003eturamali\u003c\/span\u003e \u003cspan\u003e, which means “stone of many colors”.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e \u003cspan\u003eHowever, black tourmaline was known in Germany before the Renaissance, and it was called, as it is today, “schorl”. Its magmatic formation took place in rocks composed of large crystals and beautiful colors. Their chemical composition varies depending on the stone, despite a constant with aluminum and silicon, but we notice that the number of atoms is always a multiple of three.
